College grants and scholarships for undergraduates

March 17th, 2010

There are thousands of scholarships for undergraduates and most college students are surprised to find out that many go unclaimed each year. If you are an undergraduate then it is important to speak to a guidance counselor or appointed scholarships director at your college to try and get the best advice about which grants or scholarships that you are eligible for.

There are many different types of college grants and scholarships including; academic, sporting, minority, women, mothers and many more. You will probably not be eligible for each one, but if you can create a short list of scholarships that you are eligible for and work on applying for each one. It is a good idea to apply for as many as possible to stand the best chance of being approved.

Try to make your application as detailed as possible and appropriate to the type of scholarship. For example, if you are applying for a full scholarship then try to make a stronger application that you would for a $500 scholarship!

If you are approved for a part scholarship or grant donĂ¢??t be afraid to apply for another one to cover more of your costs. Also apply for other grants, such as housing grants, that may be useful to you while you attend college.
